About Heather Hammond

MUSIC – Educational Composer

There are many books available of Heather’s popular music for young instrumentalists. These include collections for piano, clarinet, saxophone and flute at various grades. The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity and London College of Music have all included Heather’s pieces in their exam syllabuses. Most of the material for the three pre-grade 1 LCM exam books (2018) was written or arranged by Heather. Additionally, she occasionally writes pieces for the Yamaha Keyboard Club magazine.

Awards

Heather Hammond and Karen Marshall won the Music Teacher award for Best Print Resource 2018 for their series of 3 books ‘The Intermediate Pianist’.

Musical Education

Heather strongly believes that from an early age, children should have fun with music and experience modern styles alongside the more traditional material. In fact, when she was quite young Heather told her own piano teacher that if she wasn’t allowed to learn some ragtime pieces as well as the usual classical repertoire she would give up her piano lessons! The teacher agreed  and ‘The Entertainer’ (the original - not a simplified version that you can easily get hold of today) was subsequently tackled.

Favourite Things

Heather listens to all kinds of different music but among her favourites are Rachmaninov, Karl Jenkins, Jamie Cullum, Barbara Dickson, Scissor Sisters, Clare Teal, Annie Lennox, Bach, Level 42, Mary Coughlin, The Beatles, Dionne Warwick, Spyro Gyra & Elton John.

She likes all things arty and when she has time loves to paint & design things.
